Judge Rules Against New York Declaration Barring Unvaccinated Children from Schools, Public Areas

A judge stopped a New York county’s declaration barring unvaccinated children from entering “schools, places of worship and other public areas” on Friday, the Rockland Journal News reports. Acting state Supreme Court Judge Rolf Thorsen reportedly imposed an induction on Rockland County Executive Ed Day’s emergency declaration on children not vaccinated against measles, a measure taken after the county experienced a 166-case outbreak that began last October. Judge Thorsen reportedly ruled that the cases did not represent an “epidemic” and said the declaration “may have been misplaced.” Families had sued the county over the ban, arguing that their unvaccinated children posed “no threat to other children.” According to the newspaper, the judge's injunction is temporary and the next court hearing over the declaration is scheduled for April 19.
