Media Matters Shifts Focus From Fox to Breitbart

Trump presidency means a pivot for media watchdog.

After years of being one of Fox News’s primary antagonists, liberal media-watchdog organization Media Matters (MMfA) will shift its focus onto Breitbart and other news outlets with explicit ties to the “alt-right” and conspiracy-peddling misinformation. MMfA announced Tuesday that Angelo Carusone, the organization’s current executive VP, will take over as its president; and with his oversight comes a new focus. “Now, our mission is to be principally focused on the value of journalism,” he said, as reported by Politico. “It used to be simple, Fox News was the gate keeper,” he explained, “but now there are so many potential bad actors. Now there are places like Facebook who aren’t bad actors but can be enablers of misinformation.”
