It’s amazing what love—and the prospect of being on TV in front of a billion people—can do to a chap’s diet.
Prince Harry, known for his love of pizza, chips and hamburgers, has gone on a healthy eating kick ahead of his wedding, with the encouragement of his bride Meghan Markle.
The Daily Mail claims that Harry, who has also quit smoking, has lost 7 pounds thanks to taking up juicing, cutting out carbs and munching his way through more kale and quinoa and less meat.
A source tells the Mail: “Meghan has completely changed Harry’s diet. She’s got him juicing and he has lost at least half a stone, which is a lot for someone as skinny as he is. They have bought a top-of-the-range juicer and she has him on fruit and veg smoothies. She’s also weaning him off meat.”
Harry has a well-documented love of junk food. When he was a soldier, colleagues said he ‘lived off Kentucky Fried Chicken’ and he has frequently been pictured chowing down on a burger.
It’s all rather different to Meghan, who, as the Mail reports, once described her ‘ideal day’ as starting with a ‘clean cleanse vanilla shake’ blended with blueberries followed by salad for lunch.
She said: “I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends. But at the same time, it’s all about balance... I don’t ever want to feel deprived. I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things.”
The report in the Mail chimes with a previous claim by Vanity Fair contributor Katie Nicholl, who reported that Meghan “cleaned out all the junk food found” in Harry’s house, and said he had sought the services of a London-based nutritionist, Gabriela Peacock, to build a low-sugar, high-protein, non-dairy diet.
