Yet another chapter in the Mel Gibson saga: The fallen star was in a car accident, TMZ reported. According to law-enforcement sources, Gibson was driving his 2008 Maserati at 8:35 p.m. local time in Malibu, when he lost control of the vehicle and plowed his car into a hillside. According to the California Highway Patrol report obtained by TMZ, “For unknown reasons, Mr. Gibson steered his car to the right and struck the rock hillside.” The report goes on to say, “DUI is not suspected in the accident.” Gibson “did not give a firm ‘yes’ or ‘no’” when asked by officers if he had fallen asleep at the wheel, instead repeating, “I don’t know how the car left the roadway,” CHP Public Information Officer Leland Tang told TMZ. No citation was issued, and no charges will be filed.
