Melania Trump on Sunday attended a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago with her husband, President-elect Donald Trump, and Akie Abe, the widow of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Reports of the upcoming meeting circulated last week, with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins first reporting the private dinner was in the works via “a person familiar” with the plans. Trump and Shinzo reportedly became fast friends during Trump’s first term, though their friendship was cut short after the latter was assassinated at a political rally in 2022. CNN reported Akie and the president-elect have remained close since. Melania’s Sunday night post appears to confirm that, describing the meeting as a “privilege.” Melania can be seen to Akie’s left, while Donald is on her right, giving a thumbs-up. Melania added: “We fondly remembered her late husband, former Prime Minister Abe, and honored his remarkable legacy.”
