Men Aren't Funnier Than Women. Really.

Sorry men, it looks like you’re not any funnier than the fairer sex--you just think you are. That’s the takeaway from a new study that XX Factor’s Amanda Marcotte focuses on. Scientists asked a group of men and women to anonymously write cartoon captions, and then assess each caption’s humor and guess at the writer’s gender. Men and women ended up writing equally funny captions, but the men tended to (wrongly) assume the best ones were written by their fellow bros. Marcotte isn’t surprised: “Most women who have a sense of humor can tell you about a time they’ve told a joke, had it blatantly ignored by their friends and family, and then heard a man tell the same joke…to peals of laughter.”
