Denials probably won’t make those allegations go away. New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez’s office insisted Wednesday that he had reimbursed a donor for two of three personal trips to the Dominican Republic—and denied any allegations that the senator had used prostitutes on those travels. The FBI raided the office of the donor, Florida doctor Salomon Melgen, on Tuesday night and early Wednesday, but it was unclear whether the raid was related to Menendez, who traveled on Melgen’s private plane to the Dominican Republic three times in 2010. On Tuesday, Menendez became the chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee—a post held by incoming Secretary of State John Kerry.
