The head of Interpol who went missing during a trip to China is being detained and is under investigation in the country for bribery allegations. Meng Hongwei vanished in late September after travelling from Interpol HQ in France to China. Fears were raised after his wife revealed that he sent her a text message with a knife emoji on the day he went missing. China has confirmed that Meng, a vice-minister for public security in China as well as head of the global police agency, is being detained and investigated for alleged bribe-taking. In its announcement of the investigation, China's Public Security Ministry said the probe was “correct, wise and shows the determination of [President Xi]’s administration to continue its anti-corruption drive.” A number of Chinese government officials, billionaires and one a-list actress have vanished in recent months.
