The latest Rolling Stone cover that features bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is drawing intense criticism from Boston Mayor Tom Menino. In a letter to publisher Jann Wenner, Menino assailed the August 3 issue, saying it “rewards a terrorist with celebrity treatment.” The cover, Menino continued, “is ill-conceived, at best, and reaffirms a terrible message that destruction gains fame for killers and their ‘causes.’” Governor Deval Patrick called the image “out of taste.” But Rolling Stone may have bigger problems, as several retailers, including CVS, Roche Bros., Tedeschi, Cumberland Farms, Walgreens, and Stop & Shop, have said they won’t sell the issue.
