Merkin’s Rothko Sale May Have Helped Other Madoff Victim

Bernie Madoff’s victims are finally putting their art collections on the block. Prominent Madoff associate Ezra Merkin sold his art collection–which included several pieces by Mark Rothko—for $310 million in July. But there was someone other than Merkin getting rich: his unknown art dealer—identified only as “TLIA, LLC ”—made $26.5 million from the sale. Bloomberg reports that the company is registered to the retired art collector and advisor Ben Heller, who declined to comment, but who revealed that he was a Madoff victim earlier this year.
