Mexican Cartel Leader Believed Dead

Troops gun down head of "La Familia."

Mexican authorities believe that the leader of the notorious La Familia drug cartel is dead after two days of violence in the western state of Michoacan. Nazario Moreno Gonzales or “El Mas Loco” is one of at least 11 victims in the shootings, which lasted from Wednesday to Friday. An 8-month-old baby was also killed in the gunfire between federal troops and the cartel, but Mexican government officials say La Familia members carried away their dead immediately, making an exact death toll difficult. Still, the Mexican government says that La Familia is “significantly weakened” after the loss of Gonzales.
