Mexico Issues Birth Certificates in U.S.

Immigrants can now go to consulates.

Mexican immigrants seeking U.S. work permits, driver’s licenses, and protection from deportation will no longer have to come up with a way to get copies of their birth certificates from government offices back at home. Beginning Thursday, the Mexican government will begin issuing birth certificates to its citizens at consulates in the United States. “It’s a huge help. It helps individuals really begin to formulate their formal identity in this country,” Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, told the AP.
