Mia Farrow took the stand at the war-crimes trial of Charles Taylor in The Hague Monday, testifying that Naomi Campbell told her in September 1997 that she had been given a “huge diamond” by the Liberian despot at the time. That contradicts Campbell’s earlier testimony; the supermodel had said she was given a bag of uncut stones by unknown men in the middle of the night, and that her friends guessed it was Taylor. Farrow said Campbell made it clear that Taylor was the one offering the gift at a hotel in South Africa. Taylor is charged with 11 counts of instigating rape, mutilation, murder, sex slavery, and forcing children to fight his wars. Prosecutors say he traded guns with Sierra Leone rebels in exchange for “blood diamonds” during that country’s civil war.
