While much of America championed Michael Sam for coming out as gay yesterday, not everyone in the football community was quite as enthusiastic. Overnight, Sam fell 70 spots on the CBS draft prospect board, suggesting his announcement may have done professional damage. Former NFL player and coach Herm Edwards described Sam as a player with “off the field issues” who will be “bringing baggage into your locker room.” NFL Union president Domonique Foxworth was much more positive, saying, “I know the union will accept him open arms, as will our players.”
