Michael Slager, the former police officer who was caught on video shooting and killing a black motorist in April, has been released on bail. A judge on Monday approved a $500,000 bail for Slager, who will be required to stay in South Carolina. Judge Clifton Newman also set the trial date for Oct. 31. In April 2015 Slager was caught on a smartphone video shooting Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, eight times from behind as Scott ran away.
