Rick Snyder wants to appoint an emergency manager to take over the city of Detroit, alleging fiscal mismanagement, sources told the Motor City Muckracker on Wednesday. State officials have reportedly been in talks with Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and members of his administration to discuss a state financial takeover—which would allow the emergency manager to bypass the city council, impose new union contracts, privatize services, and possibly sell city assets. Many city residents oppose the state takeover, worrying that an emergency manager could unilaterally cut crucial services, sell city parks, and more.
