Scott Vetere, an assistant coach for the University of Michigan gymnastics team, resigned after he was arrested for allegedly performing a sex act in a car in an Ann Arbor parking lot with an 18-year-old gymnast. The gymnast was also arrested on Oct. 8, but her name has not been released “because of Vetere’s position of power in the situation,” according to The Detroit Free Press. Both are charged with committing an indecent or obscene act in public. A spokesperson for the university’s athletic department said Vetere was suspended on Oct. 10, the day the department learned of his arrest. He resigned on Oct. 15, during the disciplinary review process. The department prohibits romantic relationships between coaches and athletes. Vetere was arraigned on Oct. 19, and will appear in court on Nov. 14.
