A Sudanese migrant was arrested in the Channel Tunnel on Tuesday as he tried to enter England from France after a 30-mile trek through the darkness, evading some 400 security cameras and trains hurtling by at 100 miles per hour. Adbul Rahman Haroun became the first migrant to almost walk the entirety of the Chunnel, authorities said. (He was charged with obstructing engines or carriages on a railway.) As many as 5,000 migrants from the Middle East and Africa have crowded into camps in Calais, France, where the tunnel begins. The United Nations has urged France to create a “civil emergency” plan to accommodate the migrants.
