Iranian general Hussein Hamedani was killed in Syria on Thursday night, state media revealed on Friday. He is believed to have been instrumental in aiding Bashar al-Assad's government forces during the Syrian civil war. Several outlets blame Islamic State militants for the general's death, but the Syrian government has called his killers "terrorists" -- a broad term the regime uses to describe all of its various opponents.
