A 23-year-old college graduate from Omaha will be representing the U.S. in the Miss Universe competition after winning the title of Miss USA. Sarah Rose Summers, Miss Nebraska, beat out 50 other women to claim the crown at a ceremony in Shreveport, Louisiana, late Monday. A graduate of Texas Christian University, Summers is working on getting certification as a child life specialist. She won cheers from the audience for urging people to “listen to each other,” saying that is something the U.S. in particular needs right now. Contestants in this year’s event also opened up about their own personal #MeToo experiences and encouraged women’s empowerment.
