Patricia Yurena, who was crowned Miss Spain in 2008 and 2013, has become the first openly lesbian national beauty queen. Yurena posted a photo on Instagram of herself and her girlfriend, Vanesa Cortez (a singer and DJ) in bed together, along with the caption, “Romeo and Juliet.” “I don’t regret what I did and I did it because I am happy about what’s going on in my life,” Yurena said. Two openly gay competitors vied for the Miss California USA crown in 2012 but neither came home with the title.
