Rescue crews are trying to reach a missing Indonesian airliner that lost contact with ground control during a short flight in bad weather. Authorities have found what they believe to be the plane’s wreckage, and a civilian search and rescue team is leading the effort to get to it. “We can only say we have located the alleged location of the plane, but not any debris,” an official said without clarifying what device the telltale tracking signal came from. “This is a remote area and hard to get to.” The Trigana Air Service plane disappeared over a mountainous patch of the easternmost province of Papua on Sunday while carrying 54 people. The wreckage was discovered about seven miles from the plane’s destination of Oksibil. The Papua region, where the plane was flying, is covered in jungles and some planes that have disappeared there before have never been recovered. Trigana has had 14 serious incidents since beginning operations in the region in 1991.
