Missing Al Jazeera journalist Dorothy Parvaz has been deported from Syria to Iran. Syrian officials previously had said Parvaz was being held in Syria, and would be released. But the Syrian Embassy in Washington D.C. issued a statement on Tuesday which said that Parvaz had tried to enter Syria illegally with an expired Iranian visa and that she had been extradited to Iran, boarding a plane on May 1. However, Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s foreign minister, has said that he does not know where Parvaz is, and suggested Syria look into the case further. Parvaz has been missing since she arrived in Damascus on April 29 to cover protests in Syria.
