The former Mississippi State University student who pleaded guilty in March to conspiring to join ISIS was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison. Jaelyn Young once sought to disguise her trip to join the Islamic State militant group as her honeymoon with fiancé Muhammad Dakhlalla, who also pleaded guilty and will face sentencing in 13 days. The couple were arrested in 2015 before boarding a flight from Columbus, Ohio, to Istanbul. According to prosecutors, Young told her family she was guilty in a farewell letter before her departure: “I found the contacts, made arrangements, planned the departure. I am guilty of what you soon will find out.”
