Early Wednesday morning, Earl Ringo Jr. became the eighth Missouri inmate executed this year after appeals to the courts and the state’s governor failed to halt his punishment. His lawyers had raised the issue of the pre-execution sedative midazolam. They also raised the issue that Ringo was tried and sentenced to death by an all-white jury. In the end, Ringo declined the use of any sedative. Ringo, along with an accomplice, had shot and killed a delivery driver and manager trainee at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant in 1998. His final words were a quote from the Quran.
