Missouri Freight Train Crash Injures 7

Major Collision

Caused highway overpass to fall, derailing cars.

Seven people were injured, Saturday, when two freight trains crashed into one another causing a highway overpass to collapse and derail about 12 cars in rural Missouri. No one died and none of the injuries sustained in the collision were life-threatening. "We heard the crash and we stepped ourside and my son said the overpass was down. Then we heard a car's tires squealing like it was coming to a stop and then a crash and a horn continuously blowing," Wayne Woods, who tried to halt traffic at the scene. "I got over there, and the train was on its side. They got the guys out and lifted them down off the train and got them off the overpass. One was kind of bloody and the other one looked like he was pretty shook up." The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what happened.
