Conservative lawmakers in Missouri have increased the state’s required waiting period for getting an abortion to three days. The Republican-controlled legislature overrode a veto from Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon. Previously, the waiting period was 24 hours. Nixon had called the bill “extreme and disrespectful” because it does not have exceptions for rape or incest. Missouri now has America’s second most stringent law: South Dakota’s waiting period does not count weekends or holidays.
