Mizzou Names Black Interim President

The University of Missouri’s governing board on Thursday named a black law professor and deputy chancellor emeritus as its interim president in the wake of racially charged campus clashes. Michael Middleton, who retired last summer from the school, was appointed three days after Tim Wolfe resigned under pressure. The 68-year-old was an undergraduate and law school student at the university, and later served as a law professor and then an administrator. “I don’t blame white people who don’t understand [racial inequality],” Middleton told reporters. “I blame our ugly history.”
