Major League Baseball has issued a two-game suspension against Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley for what has been deemed an “illegal” slide during Saturday evening’s National League Divisional Series playoff. Utley attempted to break up a double play with a hard slide that ended up breaking the leg of New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada. While the umpires initially ruled the play to be legal, the league determined that the slide had gone beyond the scope of acceptable and merited punishment. Because of Utley’s ability to appeal the suspension, he could likely appear in the next few games.
