MLB Umpire’s Head Cracked Open by Bat

Major League Baseball home-plate umpire Paul Emmel received an enormous gash to the head Thursday night after Los Angeles Angels pinch hitter Jefry Marte lost grip on his bat and sent it flying into Emmel’s skull. The umpire left the game fully alert, with a towel pressed to head, bleeding profusely. He received stitches for the wound.
