More than 21 years after he was abducted, Maria Mancia was reunited with her son Thursday in California. When Steve Hernandez’s father ran off with him as as a baby, all but one blurry photo was left with her. He was 18 months old. In 1995, Hernandez’s father took him to Mexico, where he is now a law student. The father had told him his mother abandoned him. Earlier this year, investigators located him and performed DNA testing, confirming the link. “It was a shock,” Hernandez told the San Bernardino Sun. “I didn’t know if she was alive or not and to get a call that says they found my mother and that she had been looking for me, it was like a cold bucket of water. But it’s good. It’s good.” Officials have said the father, Valentin Hernandez, is missing and likely dead.
