Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer is turning up the heat on ExxonMobil, accusing the company of misleading state officials and local residents about the oil spill in the Yellowstone River. According to Schweitzer, who held a meeting to distribute jars for residents to fill with contaminated soil samples, Exxon lied about how long it took to close off the ruptured pipe, lied about the extent of the spill, and refused to share documents with the state. An ExxonMobil spokesman apologized and claimed the lack of transparency was a function of the emergency and not the company's effort to mislead. A House hearing on the spill is scheduled for Thursday.
