More white people died last year than were born, according to new population estimates from the Census Bureau, the first time since it began recording that the group saw such a slump. Caucasians lost about 12,400 among their 198 million in 2012, and data crunchers expect the trend to continue. Researchers contribute the drop to an aging population, a slow economy, and delayed childbearing by white women. It’s the latest in a string of bad news for white guys: last year the census said more of the country’s babies were born to minorities and projected an end of the white majority in 2043.
