Infuriated by a Moroccan law that allows a rapist to avoid punishment by marrying an underage victim, hundreds of women’s-rights activists took to the streets on Saturday outside the country’s parliament, demanding its repeal. A week ago, the debate turned deadly when 16-year-old Amina Filail, trapped in a marriage to her rapist, killed herself by ingesting rat poison. “The law has killed Amina,” read signs carried by protesters, who included the girl’s parents. “What we have witnessed is scandalous,” said Fouzi Assouli, a leading women’s-rights activist. “We must change this law, we must change the penal code.”
