Mourners lined up on Friday afternoon outside a New York City church to pay their respects to Rafael Ramos, one of two police officers shot to death last Saturday by a mentally ill gunman in Brooklyn. Partners Ramos and Wenjian Liu were sitting in their patrol car when they were targeted by the gunman, who claimed he was exacting revenge for the recent killings of unarmed black men by police in Staten Island and Ferguson, Missouri. Police officers in dress uniform carried Ramos’s coffin into the church in Queens, which he regularly attended. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
