At least 12 Nepalese guides are dead and three are missing after an avalanche descended on a climbing path on Mount Everest early Friday morning. The Sherpa guides went to set up the ropes for other climbers early in the morning. At 6:30 a.m., an avalanche hit them. Twelve bodes were found under snow and ice, while two injured guides were taken by helicopter to hospitals. Everest's base camp has begun swelling with climbers, guides, and support crews in recent weeks as they prepare to climb the 29,035-foot mountain when the good weather conditions arrive in May.
