Following a disastrous summer of derailments and disabled trains throughout New York City, Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Joe Lhota joked Sunday that commuters should just “come in earlier” while infrastructure repairs wreak havoc on Penn Station. “Try to come in earlier or later if your job allows it,” said Lhota, during a press conference, where he announced the closure of several Amtrak, NJ Transit, and LIRR lines. “I know you can always come in earlier,” he said. “Instead of taking the 7:05, take the 6:55,” Lhota continued. “We’re asking Long Islanders who take the railway to change their habits. We have to be flexible as well.”
