In an interview with Christiane Amanpour, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak says he’s upset by the violence in Tahrir Square, but that the government isn’t to blame—instead, it's the Muslim Brotherhood's fault. He also said he’s tired of being president and wants to leave office now, but can’t, because he worries that the country would descend into chaos. Although he said he doesn’t plan to run in the next election, he said he would “never run away” from Egypt. Mubarak said he never intended for his son Gamal, once widely expected to succeed him, to follow him into office. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate pushed forward on a resolution calling on Mubarak to “begin the process of the transfer of power and create a caretaker effort.”
