The scene at Hosni Mubarark’s trial sounds more like an absurdist play than a serious court hearing. Legal experts and citizens watching the trial on TV have been both amused and concerned by the antics of the lawyers representing the families of protesters whom the former president allegedly ordered to have shot. One lawyer shouted that Mubarak was a serial killer; another seized a microphone to proclaim that the man who had been wheeled into court on a hospital bed was not Mubarak but an impostor. A lawyer in the Egyptian Appeals Court said the prosecuting teams' behavior “will hinder any chances of indicting Mubarak.”
