Mullen: House Should've Waited on DADT Vote

Not everyone is lauding the recent progress toward repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law: While Admiral Mike Mullen didn’t criticize the House’s decision, he does wish they would have waited for the Pentagon’s study on the reversal, due in December. Based on a survey of troops and their families, the report is examining how openly gay military members will affect the service. Mullen favors the measure to lift the ban, but acknowledges the necessity to understand the issue from every point of view. Officials fear the successful vote will color survey responses because the House passage appears to make the outcome clear.
