It’s only fitting that a man as well connected as Rupert Murdoch would pick an equally well-connected man to oversee News Corp.’s internal probe of misconduct. Viet Dinh, who clerked for former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and served as assistant attorney general during the Bush administration’s early years, has been appointed to the job. He also coauthored the Patriot Act and is best friends with Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who will lead the U.S. investigation into News Corp. and look into allegations that the company tried to obtain phone records of 9/11 victims. Dinh has been an independent board member of News Corp. since 2004, having met James Murdoch in 2003.
