North Korea fired five missiles into the sea Monday, just three days after firing two mid-range ballistic missiles—all this despite United Nations and United States sanctions on the country for rocket and nuclear tests this year. Kim Jong Un said last week that his Hermit Kingdom would be soon testing ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads, which would be a violation of UN resolutions. Kim has been photographed with what Pyongyang said was new missile technology in recent weeks. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China is “deeply concerned” about the heightened tension developing on the Korean Peninsula, adding “We hope North Korea does not do anything to contravene UN Security Council resolutions.”
