North Korea’s long-range rocket launch turned out to be an outright failure. The rocket flew about 75 miles before breaking up into four pieces and crashing into the sea about a minute into the launch. According to NORAD, the first stage of the North Korean missile fell into the ocean, while the other two stages failed. U.S. officials say there were no casualties or threat to anyone on land. South Korea “strongly condemns” the launch and the White House issued a statement saying, “Despite the failure of its attempted missile launch, North Korea’s provocative action threatens regional security, violates international law and contravenes its own recent commitments.”
