Natalie Portman Mascara Ad Banned in UK; Azealia Banks Boycotts Dolce & Gabbana

Natalie Portman Ads Banned in UK: Natalie Portman’s mascara advertisement for Dior has been banned in the UK, after rival beauty conglomerate L’Oréal UK challenged its glossy (typical makeup ad) claims. According to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Portman’s photo was unjustifiably retouched to promote false effects and the advertisement’s claim of being an “unrivaled lash creator effect” exceeds its actual results. Dior claims that the photo was originally taken to shill lipstick and that it was designated as a mascara advert in post-production. [Vogue UK]

Azealia Banks Will Boycott Dolce & Gabbana: Dolce & Gabbana’s controversial Moorish-inspired prints have not been lost on Azealia Banks. She’s boycotting the brand. Banks took to Twitter over the weekend to vent her frustrations with what she described as, “corny, racist,” designs, exclaiming that the designers deserve a, “Swift kick in the mouth.” [Daily Mail]

Taylor Swift's Style, Explained: Taylor Swift has owed her good girl taste in clothing as a way to draw attention to her musical talents, “”People are only going to focus on one or two things about you—I want that to be that I write my own songs, not that I have great abs,” she told The Sun. [Page Six]

Tory Burch’s Well-Planned NBC Segment: At first watch, it would have seemed that Tory Burch’s segment on last week’s Rock Center with Brian Williams was Burch’s crafty comeback at ex-husband Chris Burch for the lawsuit he’d filed against her just two weeks prior. But now WWD reports that the segment, titled “There’s Something About Tory,” where she calls Chris’s store C. Wonder “too referential” was ten months in the making. Filming had wrapped before he had filed the lawsuit in a Delaware court on October 2. “We went back to both of them for a comment,” NBC correspondent Harry Smith told the paper, “Neither of them wanted to touch it.” [WWD]
