A large portion of Venezuela was hit by a power outage early Friday afternoon, according to Electricity Minister Jesse Chacon, who spoke to a state television news broadcaster. Authorities are investigating the cause of the outage. Venezuela has suffered many power outages in recent years, which some have attributed to low electricity tariffs and limited state investment after the 2007 nationalization of the power sector.
