Americans across the country will be observing a moment of silence at 9:30 this morning, in honor of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which occurred a week ago. The governors of Connecticut, Maine, Illinois, Michigan, and several other states have called on residents to observe the moment of silence and to ring bells. In Washington D.C., the National Cathedral will ring its bell 28 times as part of an interfaith memorial. Meanwhile, a private funeral was held on Thursday for Nancy Lanza, the mother of the gunman, in New Hampshire. About two dozen friends and family members attended the service at the home of Lanza’s brother, a retired police officer.
