NBA Star JJ Redick Apologizes For China Slur, Claims He Was Tongue-Tied
NBA star says he was trying to wish Chinese fans a happy new year.
Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard JJ Redick has apologized after a video message to fans for Chinese New Year appeared to show him using a racist slur—but he claims he just got tongue-tied. In the original video, Redick appears to send his best wishes to "all the NBA c**nk fans in China." In an apology later posted on Twitter, he said he intended to say "NBA Chinese fans" but changed his mind mid-sentence to say "NBA fans in China," claiming his confusion led to his accidental use of the slur. "That is not a word in my vocabulary but I now understand how it sounds in the video," said Redick in a statement. "That is not who I am—as a person, a player, a husband, and a father."
