There’s no medal for shortest stint at the Winter Olympics, but, if there was, Joshua Cooper Ramo would be a serious contender. The NBC analyst has been canned after he misguidedly waded into the thorny issue of Japan/Korea relations during the broadcast of Friday’s Opening Ceremony. Koreans around the world called out Ramo after he praised Japan for being a “cultural, technological, and economic example” to Korea, overlooking the resentment still felt over Japan’s colonization of Korea in the early 20th century. A petition demanding an apology gathered more than 13,000 signatures over the weekend. NBC apologized in writing to the Pyeongchang Games organizing committee for the remark, and confirmed Monday that Ramo had been taken off air.
