Nearly 100 people have been reported dead and hundreds more injured in a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia’s Aceh province early Wednesday morning. At least 97 people have been declared deceased, with the death toll expected to climb as emergency personnel work to free those who’ve been buried and trapped in collapsed buildings, Maj. Gen. Tatang Sulaiman told reporters. “Hopefully we would be able to finish the evacuation from the rubble before sunset,” he said. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency has said 273 people were injured. Thousands of emergency workers, police, and soldiers have assisted in the rescue effort.
