The prime minister's Likud party won the highest number of seats—30—in a tense March election, and needed support from the right-wing Bayit Yehudi to cobble together the 61 seats required for a ruling government. The leader of Bayit Yedhu, Netanyahu's former aide Naftali Bennett, demanded the justice ministry in exchange for backing from his eight MPs.
